I am "The Cowboy Poet"

AKA John Weisenberger the cowboy poet.

How It All Started

My first poem occurred in the break during my Accounting 101 final while I was in the US Navy (1/67). There was an internal pressure and, for some reason, I had to write. Then, and still today, my poems come to me and move to paper from the emotional side of my life. It always feels like I am being Guided by Angels.

I grew up in Porterville California, a small central San Joaquin Valley town; born and raised. I am the middle of three brothers with a younger sister. As long as I can remember we had horses and cattle on 300 acres. Plus, we had a “man’s” family hardware store (Weisenberger’s Ace Hardware – was then and still today (in third generation) is reported as the best men’s hardware store in California).

These words that show up under my trusty pen come to me as if by some sort of magic granted to me by the All Mighty God of the Universe. I do get to add my absolute joy of being alive and sharing these poems with you. Somehow, my written words (and even more my reading) have deeply touched hearts from day one. Then, and still today, that is a magical mystery to me.

These days I live in Clovis CA, a lovely Big Hat Rodeo Town, (I have eternal hopes to travel by RV on the Blue Highways all “across the Fruited Plain, from Sea to Shining Sea”.)

I have a degree in computer science from Boston University and my resume will tell you that I have been a computer guy (and wizard) for over fifty years. I was in the US Navy; trained in Electronics, qualified in Submarines, and am qualified in Nuclear Power operation; ETR2(SS). Most recently I worked for 7 years with Severe and Moderately Severe high school kids as a Teaching Assistant.

And now I am Writing-ly Retired.
